James rejoined Gerald Eve, in 2007, as a partner in the specialist department, having previously been with the firm for more than 16 years. He specialises in advice on retirement and assisted living housing, healthcare, educational and other institutional property. His experience includes valuation, acquisitions, disposals, development and estate strategy advice.
Specific experience
Consultancy and valuation advice to Romaco on their acquisition of a portfolio of 679 retirement units in four retirement care villages in Hertfordshire, Surrey and Warwickshire; subsequent loan security and accounts valuations of the portfolio together with a new development in Taunton and a care home and close care scheme in Henley
Disposal of numerous care homes for Sue Ryder Care in Norfolk and Sheffield both as going concerns and with vacant possession
Asset valuation, including planning and development appraisals of the care home and sheltered housing estate for Jewish Care, comprising approximately 35 properties and involved in subsequent implementation of estate strategy to modernise the estate and maximize the return from surplus assets; undertaken similar instructions for Scope, RNIB, and Leonard Cheshire
Valuations for loan security purposes of educational and institutional properties throughout the UK
Landlord & tenant advice to schools, colleges, universities and occupiers of sports grounds including Dulwich College, University of London, Syracuse University, Guildford Grammar School, and Holmewood House School amongst others
Consultancy and agency advice to many registered charities including advice on compliance with the Charities Act 1993
James is a member and former committee representative of the Residential Development Agents Society and is a governor of Durston House Preparatory School in Ealing.
