John is a partner in our industrial department, based in the West End, advising clients in the manufacturing, research and development and distribution sectors. He advises national and multi-national companies on corporate property issues including, estate strategy, national non-domestic rating, valuations for company accounts and other purposes and landlord & tenant matters. John takes a keen interest in ICT and its role in providing estate management advice and was responsible for setting up the firm’s subsidiary Gerald Eve Property Software Limited.
Specific experience
Lead partner in the co-ordination of asset valuations and subsequent valuation reviews of large manufacturing and R&D companies in the UK including the valuation of properties outside the UK
Acting for Rolls-Royce plc in respect of their production, research and development and testing facility at Filton, Bristol with regard to rating matters from the 1973 List onwards where the latest agreement on the 2005 List reduced the assessment from RV £1,590,000 to RV £1,330,000
Providing advice to BP on rating matters from 1995 onwards regarding their 52,000 sq m research and development site at Sunbury-upon-Thames and during its conversion to a state of the art office campus. This advice has produced rates savings of over £16M to date
Advice to a building trade company with over 250 UK properties to include a review of internal property functions within the organisation, an audit of existing information systems, recommendations relating to process control and financial reporting and the appointment of a new property director
Advising clients with industrial and distribution properties on lease renewals and rent reviews including the preparation of submissions and counter submissions, giving evidence at oral hearings and submissions as to costs – clients include Aviva, Siemens, BSS Group, Carlsberg UK, Morgan Crucible, Rolls-Royce and Whitbread
