Peter is an associate based in Glasgow. He joined Gerald Eve in 2004 having worked in private practice and an Assessor’s office for 15 years. Peter has extensive experience in the valuation of all classes of non-domestic properties for rating purposes, in particular, high street and shopping centre retail, large stores and retail warehouses, large industrial complexes, distribution properties, hospitals and other public buildings. Peter also undertakes other professional work including valuation and landlord & tenant matters. He advises a wide range of clients including Marks & Spencer, Debenhams, Schuh, Lloyds TSB, Early Learning Centre, British Energy, Scottish NHS Trusts, Edinburgh and Glasgow universities, Prudential and Scottish Water.
Peter is a member of both the Institute of Revenues Rating and Valuation (IRRV) and the Rating Surveyors’ Association (RSA) and is a member of the RICS Scotland Rating and Local Taxation Committee.
Specific experience
The 2005 Revaluation marked Peter’s involvement in his fourth Revaluation in Scotland. As a member of the Scottish Rating Practice Group, he is chairman of several committees negotiating schemes of value proposed by the Scottish Assessors Association including large shops, hospitals, sewerage works, universities, large industrial, cinemas and bingo halls.
He regularly appears as Expert Witness at Local Valuation Appeal Committee hearings and has successfully appeared before the Lands Tribunal for Scotland on behalf of a major retail client with premises in an out of town shopping centre.
He has recently identified opportunities to maximise rates savings for a major industrial client in respect of three large complexes located across Scotland and successfully handled negotiations with the individual assessors concerned resulting in significant rateable value reductions and cash savings for the client
Peter undertakes valuation, and landlord & tenant work including asset valuations for a number of major clients including Edinburgh and Glasgow University and lease renewal work for NHS Greater Glasgow.
He is also involved in compulsory purchase work in respect of the new M74 extension in Glasgow and Lanarkshire.
Peter is an Assessment of Professional Competence assessor on behalf of the RICS and regularly sits on panels assessing graduate surveyors on their knowledge and professional skills before being elected Members of the RICS.
