Philip is a partner and head of our minerals & waste management department, based in Leeds. His particular expertise is in the valuation of large and unusual properties including factories, quarries and landfill sites, shops and local authority properties. He is a member of the CBI Minerals Group.
Specific experience
Advising UK companies on a wide range of estate matters, including valuations, rent reviews, lease renewals, dilapidations, licenses for alterations, surrender, acquisitions & disposals, and fire insurance
Acting as co-ordinator of rating contracts for occupiers with nationwide portfolios and an experienced negotiator of rating appeals, with particular emphasis on industrial, quarry, warehouse, shop and office properties; experienced advocate and expert witness at Valuation Tribunal
Preparation and submission of planning applications for extensions to limestone/gritstone and sand and gravel quarries including co-ordination of Environmental Impact Assessments
Valuation of a portfolio of clay pits and associated factories manufacturing clay-based products
Valuation for loan security purposes of various mineral and waste management assets
Balance sheet valuations of large industrial sites and docks by reference to Depreciated Replacement Cost
Valuation of a large portfolio of sand and gravel and hardrock quarries in the UK, Europe and the USA for balance sheet purposes
Advice on appropriate lease terms for disposal of mineral assets on lease
Advice on compensation for sterilisation of mineral and landfill void at various sites in the UK
