Client: Augustinian Nursing Homes
A residential care home for 193 residents - the elderly with health problems and young people with learning difficulties – was facing closure because the accommodation was dated and did not comply with strict new regulations introduced under the Care Standards Act 2000.
Our client, Augustinian Nursing Homes, decided to redevelop part of their site as a new village. This would provide them with the funds to reinvest in new facilities, and also ensure an ongoing commitment to the support of the care facilities.
The initial response from the planners prior to the involvement of our Planning & Development team was a straight NO. Following close negotiations this situation has been turned round. The proposals were approved by the Planning Committee and the Secretary of State declined to call the application in.
The new village provides 235 new flats and houses, a 60 bedroom nursing home and a 121 unit residential and extra care facility.
