Client: Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Trust

The Birmingham agency team negotiate a large number of deals involving the sale or purchase of property. Whilst many of the deals are often relatively straightforward they are also asked to deal with more complex transactions.

A recent example includes the sale of the former Northern Birmingham Mental Health NHS Trust Hospital site. The NHS no longer required the site and appointed us to advise them on its development potential and ultimately its disposal.

Some of the original buildings dated back to 1869 when it was a workhouse school for 160 children. Later, it became home to the mentally ill, the elderly, war refugees and evacuees. Part of the re-development will include the sympathetic restoration of two existing grade 2 listed buildings. The development is excellent news for the regeneration of the site and the local area.

We negotiated the sale of the historic 22-acre site that was acquired by Cofton Ltd for over £6m. Work is now underway by Barratts and Wimpey to transform the site and buildings into a major £54m residential development.
