Client: Richemont International Limited, Alfred Dunhill Limited and Grosvenor

Gerald Eve LLP was jointly appointed by Richemont International Limited and Grosvenor Limited to provide strategic and detailed planning advice on the change of use, extension and refurbishment of the Bourdon House (the former London home of the 2nd Duke of Westminster).

Bourdon House, one of the earliest surviving houses on the Grosvenor Estate, has a fine interior of early Georgian character. It has become the European brand home of Alfred Dunhill, one of only three brand homes worldwide. The brand home opened in Summer 2008 in a blaze of publicity.

A unique and stunning transformation of the building, based on a sensitive approach to historic building conservation has created a new retail store spread across three floors, a barbers, spa and treatment rooms, private screening room, discovery room, bar and humidor. A new discrete shop front was created in the 1909/1910 wing of the house of a design reflecting the original character of the building.

Integral to the project was the creation of ‘Alfreds’ an exclusive and intimate private members club. Many of the main rooms in the original wing of the house (built in mid 1720’s) were set aside for club use. A new single storey modern extension has been built in the rear courtyard garden to create a new restaurant.

The refurbishment and enhancement of the Grade II* listed building located in the very heart of the Mayfair Conservation Area was designed by Aukett Fitzroy Robinson.

Gerald Eve LLP advised on the overall approach, prepared applications for planning permission, listed building, advertisement and tree works consent, led all discussions with the City of Westminster and English Heritage and dealt with the discharge of planning conditions.
