Client: BP

BP has been a client of Gerald Eve’s for over 60 years. The operational changes and sector trends over this time have invariably impacted on the company’s property portfolio; our role has been to assist BP in dealing with these changes.

One of our first projects was in the 1950’s when its Isle of Grain refinery was built; we had a team located on site for two years compiling a reference book of rateable items. Sector rationalisation and consolidation has seen the gradual decommissioning and sale of a number of BP’s depots and manufacturing sites. In response, our property taxation advice for BP has shifted from a traditional appeals based service to an all encompassing modern taxation service which focuses on saving money through appeals, temporary relief's, changing physical circumstances, and in the case of its office portfolio, a full rates payment management service.

In addition to rating, we have also advised BP on rent review, valuation, compensation and agency advice, particularly for its sites in South Wales, Scotland, Teeside and Humberside. We have recently completed a valuation of various assets on the site of the former Llandarcy Refinery on behalf of BP D’Arcy Development Limited – a company created in the late 1980’s to create new employment opportunities following the closure of the site in 1986 – as part of their preparation for entering into an agreement with St Modwen to develop an urban village on the site.

To be a consultant for BP requires a proven commitment to stringent ethical, health and safety and environmental considerations. Gerald Eve shares these concerns and has comprehensive policies and actions in place that adhere to its standards.
