Client: Carmelite Order
The Carmelite Order in Oxfordshire owns a large site that accommodates the Carmelite Friars, members of the Order and those on retreat. The properties include the priory itself, an additional chapel, temporary buildings, cottages and an award-winning specialist building offering accommodation for retreats.
To enable the Order to plan for future repair costs against the possible commercial sale of the site, our building consultancy team were asked to undertake a Preventive Planning Management assessment for the properties.
The solution
The principle of this is to review the effect of life cycle costing on maintenance, comparing the cost now against the future maintenance and replacement costs to match the anticipated buildings’ life and expenditure.
It required a very detailed inspection of each of the properties, and the application of our knowledge of costs and rates to arrive our recommendations on a cost-effective, preventative maintenance programme.
Results
We delivered our report within the required short timeframe, calculating the cost of the preventative planning management at £1.6m
