Client: Legal and General, Central St Giles
Planning permission was secured on behalf of Legal & General for the redevelopment of Central St Giles, London WC2. Designed by Renzo Piano, it will be his first building in London.
The scheme comprises over 50,000 sq m of offices, 109 new homes – half of which will be affordable, set around a new courtyard connected by new pedestrian routes and ground floor public uses to the wider St Giles area.
Key planning issues included balancing the requirement for a high density central London development with the setting of nearby grade I and II listed buildings, securing the appropriate land use mix in the context of regional and local planning policies and ensuring that the
proposed development, while creating a new ‘place’ for London, will integrate with the surrounding area and act as a catalyst for change.
The building is currently under construction.
