Client: Land Securities Plc, Frogmore and Galliard Homes, City Road
Gerald Eve LLP secured planning permission for Land Securities plc, Frogmore and Galliard Homes from the London Borough of Islington for the comprehensive mixed-use redevelopment of a former warehousing complex on City Road, to include over 1,000 new homes, office and retail floorspace, hotel and new public realm.
The existing site was low density and under-utilised. Benefits of the scheme included the provision of high quality, sustainable new homes for a range of family sizes, the provision of modern, flexible office and retail accommodation to suit occupier requirements, the provision of student housing and the creation of an enhanced public realm in addition to enhanced pedestrian accessibility and permeability.
Key issues included the development of a new residential tower in this location, height and bulk and land use.
