Client: Down District Council

Our building surveying team were appointed to undertake Building Reinstatement Cost Assessments for a district council’s property portfolio for fire insurance purposes.

Covering an area of 250 square miles, the Council has one of the largest local authority property portfolios in Northern Ireland. Our role was to inspect and undertake an assessment of the cost of reinstating each property should they be damaged or lost through fire. This ‘building reinstatement cost assessment’ establishes the cost of rebuilding a property to a standard equal to the existing property.

Like many other local authorities, the properties within the portfolio were a mixture that ranged from public toilets and sports pavilions to community centres, offices, museums and art galleries. Many were listed and would require specialist construction work, including a former gaol with walls over one metre thick!

Through applying their specialist knowledge and experience of such buildings, our building surveyors were able to complete the assessments accurately and to a tight timescale.
