Client: Rolls-Royce, Bristol
Following strategic decisions by Rolls-Royce to concentrate manufacturing and research activities on the Gypsy Patch works shown edged blue on the right, the Company decided to close and decommission the companion facilities at East Works, edged red on the image on the right.
This facility extends to 65 acres of manufacturing plant and aero engine test beds and the prospects for redevelopment necessitated a comprehensive planning and Development Brief to address issues of traffic generation and highways, mixed land use and ground remediation.
Gerald Eve LLP Planning and Development advised throughout this process working closely with South Gloucestershire District Council and local stakeholders in the preliminary planning process prior to competitive marketing and developer selection to appoint ProLogis Developments Ltd as the preferred developer partner. A joint application for comprehensive redevelopment in mixed use including hotel, offices, general industrial and distribution activities, was approved in April 2008, following extensive public consultations and an exhibition.
