Client: Scottish Widows, Tishman Speyer, Farringdon Street
Fleetway House is located on the east side of Farringdon Street in the City of London. Planning permission was secured on behalf of Scottish Widows for the refurbishment, recladding and a four-storey extension to the existing building to provide over 21,000 sq m of office and retail floorspace.
The site is located within the Strategic View of St Paul’s Cathedral from Primrose Hill and Parliament Hill, within the Wider Setting Consultation Area of views from Parliament Hill and Kenwood House and within the Background Consultation Areas from Greenwich Park and Blackheath Point. Key planning issues included height and bulk and the impact on strategic and local views and design.
The building was subsequently sold to Tishman Speyer. Following this sale, Tishman Speyer required adjustments to the design of the approved scheme in order to improve the quality and appearance of the building. Planning permission was secured for new cladding to the façade on Farringdon Street, design changes to the massing of the building at roof level, servicing changes and internal reconfigurations.
