Client: Merlin Entertainments Group – London Aquarium

Located on the south bank of the Thames within County Hall, the London Aquarium has one of Europe’s largest displays of aquatic life, home to over 400 species.

In advance of its purchase, Merlin Entertainments Group – owners of Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, LEGOLAND and Chessington World of Adventures – appointed our building consultancy team to produce a Schedule of Condition of the premises. Forming a key part of the acquisition process, this had to be completed to a very tight timescale.

Solution
By its very nature, this was an unusual and challenging property. Totalling over 40,000 sq ft over ground, basement, and sub-basement levels, we undertook a full inspection of the mechanical and electrical services, in addition to written and photographic comment on the structure.

The results
Our building surveyors issued the 400 page Schedule of Condition to Merlin within four days of inspection, enabling them to proceed with the acquisition quickly.
