Client: Sisters of Providence (Rosminian)

The Rosminian Sisters - a Catholic religious order – first established a convent and school in Loughborough in the 1850’s. In order to allow the school to expand into the present convent and for the Sisters to be able to care for the frail elderly sisters, they commissioned the construction of a new, modern convent within the grounds of the school.

The solution
As the Sisters had no experience of managing projects such as these, Gerald Eve was appointed to project manage the development process from inception through to completion.

The challenge was to design a new convent that would meet the Sisters’ requirements for housing, community and worship, whilst at the same time complying with modern nursing home standards without creating an institutional feel. One of our key tasks was to ensure that the Sisters became an effective and successful client even though they had not undertaken a building project for many years. We helped in the appointment of key consultants and then coordinated the professional team and were meticulous over contractor selection.

Throughout the construction process, we were hands-on to ensure that all project risks were controlled, and that the team worked as a cohesive, co-operative and co-ordinated manner.

Results
The convent has now been completed, on budget, to the required quality standards and to an agreed timescale.
