Client: Sunrise Senior Living, Bramhall

Sunrise Senior Living is a provider of care home accommodation for senior citizens. ‘Assisted Living’ is a relatively new concept to the UK, which has been welcomed by the Government and care experts, committed to broadening the choice of accommodation available to the elderly as well as raising standards.


Gerald Eve has worked for Sunrise Senior Living in providing planning advice for the development of new assisted living care homes at a number of locations throughout the country.

Approach
Gerald Eve was involved from the start in the site selection process for a new assisted living care home in the Stockport area. We advised on the town planning issues relating to the area of search assisting and informing the clients choice of site.

In addition to the site selection process, we were instructed to compile and submit a planning application for the erection of a new building for care home use. The site was located within a Conservation Area and we therefore used a detailed character assessment of the area to justify the erection of a new larger building, which had to be sensitively designed to respond to and respect the local area.

Along with the client's public relations firm, we ran community consultation exercises in order that feedback could be obtained from local residents and ideas incorporated within the proposal where possible.

Results
We were successful in obtaining planning permission for Sunrise Senior Living, and following the grant of permission, we also managed the discharge of planning conditions in order to facilitate the commencement of works on site.
