Client: The Royal Bank of Scotland

We have been involved in over £2.6bn of asset-backed transactions with RBS’s Structured Finance team over the last five years.

We provide the company with due diligence advice for deals that include the following:
  • £850m portfolio acquisition of over 120 NCP car parks
  • £300m acquisition of 85 Volkswagen car showrooms
  • £400m acquisition of 18 Hilton Hotels
  • £1.56bn acquisition of the Somerfield/Kwik Save Group, where RBS was part of a three-strong funding consortium
The vital characteristics to the success of these deals include our ability to combine the challenging technical aspects of the deal (in particular, how it is financially structured), with understanding the underlying property and operational fundamentals of the sector.

Timescales on such transactions also tend to be very tight, which often requires a very large internal team to be assembled at short notice, managed from a central point. It might include, for instance, specialist valuers, building surveyors advising on condition issues, investment consultancy, and planners looking at redevelopment options. Our geographical spread is also a key aspect of our delivery on projects of this nature.
