Gerald Eve improves ratings efficiency for leading energy company

SSE plc is the UK’s second-largest supplier of gas and electricity, and its largest supplier of renewable energy. Ferrybridge Power Station in West Yorkshire is a coal-fired power station that SSE purchased in 2004 and invested in equipment to reduce its emissions.

Gerald Eve has provided business rating advice to SSE for over 10 years, bringing the benefit of considerable experience in the energy and industrial sectors.

Combining our sector knowledge and rating expertise, we developed a solution within the rating system for the impact of environmental legislation on plant operation. With the output of on two units at Ferrybridge restricted by EU regulations, we made a successful appeal to have the 2010 rating list assessment reduced from £7.4m to £6.15m. Then, when SSE was forced to close the noncompliant units in 2014, we were able to negotiate a further reduction in assessment to £5.4m.
