Alastair is a Senior Associate in Gerald Eve’s specialist Lease Exit team. He advises on all aspects of lease end strategy and negotiation including dilapidations, break clauses, surrenders, and lease liability provisioning. He works across all types of commercial property, with a particular focus on FRS accounting of lease liabilities and surplus property provisioning.
Alastair has specialized in lease exit matters since he began working in the Lease Exit team at Deloitte prior to its move over to Gerald Eve in 2016. The team, which includes both building surveyors and commercial surveyors, provides expert advice to landlords and tenants on the building condition, valuation, legal and negotiation aspects of dilapidations and lease exit matters.
Alastair is also an experienced commercial building surveyor with a background in due diligence, contract administration and building pathology.
Aviva – Management of all Aviva occupied premises dilapidations provisioning and negotiations covering a
nationwide portfolio including offices, retail and industrial premises.
Friends Provident – Dilapidations costing and strategy advice to inform surrender discussions regarding in excess of 400,000 sq ft of offices and document storage facilities in Salisbury.
University College London – Management of all dilapidations negotiations and provisioning for a portfolio of leased premises for FRS accounting purposes. Liabilities assessed in excess of £20m.
Banco Espirito Santo (now Nova Banco) – Advice and negotiations leading to a 95% saving against the landlord’s claim of c. £650,000 following the exit of the former London headquarters at Queen Street, EC4V, including recovering sums from sub-tenants
Mapeley Estates – Advisor on lease exit, dilapidations negotiations and service charge matters.
