I’m a Partner and co-head of our Leisure department. The main focus of my work is in the Urban Leisure sector with a particular focus on the cinema exhibition gambling and hospitality industries. I advise on valuation, agency, due diligence, lease consultancy and rating matters.

I am a member of the Entertainment and Leisure Forum; a self-electing body of Chartered Surveyors, all of whom practice in the leisure sector and collectively work with the RICS in relation to valuation methodology. I have considerable experience in third party referrals and have given Expert Witness evidence at formal rent review oral hearings.

I advise key clients in the Urban Leisure sector, including the Odeon, Everyman and Curzon cinema groups, The Rank Group’s Mecca Bingo and Grosvenor Casinos, as well as Buzz Bingo, Club 3000, Genting Casinos and 360 Play.

MY RECENT PROJECTS

  • Odeon and UCI Cinemas group – I advise the group on all rent reviews and lease renewals throughout the UK. With respect to Odeon Marble Arch, we successfully represented Odeon’s interests fronting a complex lease surrender to facilitate a wholesale redevelopment of the site and negotiated terms on Odeon’s behalf to take a new lease within the completed scheme. We secured a fully funded developer’s specification for Odeon as well as comprehensive compensation for the period of development. We also secured payment of more than £10m on Odeon’s behalf as a facilitation payment recognising its strategic importance to the overall delivery of the wider scheme.
  • Parkway Cinemas – I advised Parkway Cinemas, one of the North’s leading independent cinema operators, on its acquisition of a state of the art 25,000 sq ft five screen digital multiplex cinema and community theatre forming part of the £120 million Flemingate regeneration project in Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire.
  • Mecca Bingo and Grosvenor Casinos – I advise on all rent reviews and have helped both organisations successfully resist all attempts to increase bingo club rents as a result of the smoking ban and the Gaming Act.
