Dean is a Partner and leads the Manchester Building Consultancy team. He is responsible for the delivery of construction advisory services to government and commercial clients across commercial, residential, educational and health premises. He possesses a diverse skills set having worked across both public and private sectors, providing building consultancy, project management, real estate strategy and construction advisory services. Dean has also worked closely alongside corporate finance, tax and audit teams, providing technical due diligence advice to Government bodies, private equity houses, funders and investors in respect of mergers, acquisitions and disposals.

Specific Experience

Technical Due Diligence – Dean specialises in providing technical due diligence on both leasehold and freehold property acquisitions. He has advised Government clients, private equity houses and investors in relation to a number of significant deals. Notable instructions include technical due diligence in respect of the acquisition of the NEC Group from Birmingham City Council and the acquisition of Glasgow Prestwick Airport. His clients include Lloyds Development Capital, Co-operative Bank, Scottish Government, Equistone & Partners and Triple Point.

Dilapidations – Dean provides the full range of dilapidations services to both occupiers and landlords. This includes assessment reports for provisioning and negotiation of financial and technical settlements. He has acted on behalf of client on claims up to £3million in value and has advised clients such as Manchester Airport Group, Saica, Balfour Beatty, Mapeley and Aviva.

Planned Preventative Maintenance – Dean provides advice to clients regarding the maintenance of building fabric across all types of property ranging from single office buildings to vast government portfolios. He has lead large multi-disciplinary teams providing condition surveys for clients including Ministry of Justice, University of Manchester, University of Lincoln and National Offender Management Service.

Project Assurance – Dean has provided project audit services for numerous clients. He has acted as case review lead for the review and audit of over 500 construction projects carried out by City of Edinburgh Council to the historic building fabric of Edinburgh City Centre. This role required liaison with numerous stakeholders including property firms, contractors, councillors, MP’s and the public.

Reinstatement Cost Assessments – Dean has provided Reinstatement Cost Assessments for insurance purposes for clients including University of Lincoln and Co-operative Bank.
