Simon is a Partner in our minerals and waste management team, based in Leeds, and joined Gerald Eve in 1998. He advises operators, lending institutions and landlords in the minerals, waste management and related industry sectors.

Preparing valuations for land, buildings, mineral, clay/concrete products and waste assets for accounting, negotiation, management and loan security purposes throughout the UK.

Recent portfolio valuations for various clay/concrete product sector clients for internal accounting and management purposes.  Work included valuing production works, mineral bearing land and income generated from Landfill and LFG.

Valuation advice for loan security purposes for non hazardous/inert landfills, waste transfer stations, brickworks and mineral bearing land.

Probate valuation advice for mineral bearing land.

Valuation for compensation purposes for sterilised mineral reserve / landfill void space restricted by overhead power lines.

Preparing rating valuations, negotiating rates savings and mitigating empty rates liabilities for industrial, brick/tile, concrete, cement, coal, mineral, LFG, landfill and waste management industries.

Chair of the British Ceramic Confederation (BCC) Rating Steering Group on behalf of the brick and tile industry.

Auditing client accounts for historic billing errors and retrospective rates reliefs.
Client manager for a large number of minerals and waste clients.

Detailed knowledge of how to mitigate business rates on vacant mineral/waste properties.

Estates Management / Landlord & Tenant
Responsible for the lease management of various landlord interests in quarry and waste management sites.  Work includes drafting heads of terms, lease variations, rent reviews, and overseeing restoration works.
