The Challenge

The University of Derby appointed us to provide full asset valuation for financial reporting purposes, comprising a range of assets within a number of locations. The valuation had to be carried out in accordance with the Higher Education Statement of Recommended Practice: accounting for further and higher education 2019 (SORP).

The Solution

The range of assets demanded a number of valuation methods, alongside a thorough understanding of relevant accounting standards. After a detailed review of all properties, we determined the best valuation method for each – including depreciated replacement cost for specialised assets, and market-led approaches where appropriate – to produce a valuation of the estate. Our expert knowledge of specialised assets, commercial and student residential markets was crucial in delivering the valuation.

The Result

Our valuations were reported for both specialised and non-specialised assets, including those valued on cost based and trading valuation approaches. The client received an accurate portfolio valuation that was produced in accordance with the standards and audit support was provided as necessary.
