Philip is a Partner and head of our Leeds Office. Philip also heads our Minerals & Waste Management Department, which is based in Leeds. His particular expertise is providing advice, mainly from a valuation perspective. He has advised clients in respect of factories, large shops, department stores, local authority properties such as theatres, schools and libraries and leisure properties such as amusement parks and caravan sites, as well as, quarries and landfill sites. He has also valued specialist industrial sites such as docks and dry docks. He is a former member of the CBI Minerals Group and is a Governor of a University in Leeds.

Specific experience
Advising UK companies on a wide range of property and estate matters and in respect of different property types, including rate mitigation and management, capital and rental valuations, rent reviews, lease renewals, dilapidations, licenses for alterations, surrender, acquisitions & disposals, sale and leaseback and investment advice, including lease re-gears, compensation and CPO and fire insurance.

Experienced negotiator of rating appeals, with particular emphasis on retail, industrial,  warehouse, office and quarry properties; experienced advocate and expert witness at Valuation Tribunal.

Co-ordination of several large retail and industrial portfolios where we advise clients on rate mitigation and payment management.

In respect of mineral work, Philip has prepared and submitted planning applications for extensions to limestone/gritstone and sand and gravel quarries including co-ordination of Environmental Impact Assessments, has advised on appropriate lease terms for disposal of mineral assets on lease and has valued mineral assets in the UK and abroad. He has advised operators on compensation for sterilisation of mineral and landfill void at various sites in the UK, and has negotiated compensation upon compulsory purchase.
